Realising that it was not possible to turn water into wine prompted Claymore Wines founder (a wine loving medical professional) to purchase his first vineyard at Leasingham in 1991. The Claymore Wines label began in 1997 under the possibly misguided premise that this could be a path to early retirement; now over 10 years on thoughts of retirement may be premature! What started with small volumes of grenache and riesling wines (produced in volumes that the ordinary family would finish in a few months) has now grown to almost 12,000 cases per year across a highly awarded range of 10 wines.
We invite you to take the Claymore tour - experience our interpretation of some modern rock classics at the "JOSHUA TREE" cellar door in Leasingham, Clare Valley.

In 1996, upon meeting a local identity, "Bluey", Claymore Wines invested in a forty acre block (Kupu-kupu) in Penwortham and proceeded to plant it out to shiraz, merlot and grenache. With brown loam soil over slate and very little surface water Kupu-kupu is to become the "Graceland" of Claymore Wines, the home of many modern classics.

Our labelling is inspired by some of the great music of modern time - from rock, punk and folk. Our wines are about bringing together great passions to create the ultimate experience. We pride ourselves on meticulous winemaking using only the best fruit but when it comes to enjoying a glass we don't take ourselves too seriously. So turn up the volume on a soundtrack of your choice, crack a bottle for friends, and relax.
The Claymore Wines team share a passion for the fun side of wine. Together they enjoy guiding visitors through the Claymore Wines experience and co-ordinating our annual celebrations at the Joshua Tree Cellar Door; from Cabaret to Opera to Comedy, we do all like the lighter side of wine.
