Elegance and restraint are keys to this wine. A big mouthful of black currant fruits is backed up by careful oak integration that delivers structure and depth. Savoury tannins are harmonious with the ever-present lashings of wild berries, liquorice and hints of leather and cedar.
It’s a dark and brooding little beast, with subtle integration and balanced fruit; juicy dark fruit flavours of blood plums and blackcurrants. There are persistent, mouthcoating tannins and balanced oak that lifts rather than overpowers this wine. This vintage typifies Clare Valley and all it has to offer -a wine that will be hard to put down and will continue to find its stride in the months and years to come.
This wine defines charisma! Juicy plum and dark cherry fruits combine with licks of mint and fennel that overlay a slatey-granite earthiness. It’s a deep, dark, dangerously intense cabernet with integrated tannins and dense dark fruits wound up in savoury spice.
A rich creaminess sits up front and that briar, spice and darkest berries continue in-line in the palate. Nothing prickly about the tannin structure though; they have benefited from being afforded extra time in oak and sit like gentle grape dust in the mouth.
Heady, savoury aromas jump alluringly out of the glass on first pour, backed up with violets, juicy blueberry and a subtle nuance of cloves. The bouquet is like a soft, plush dark purple welcome mat letting you know there is a lot more to be discovered once you open the door.
