Highly acclaimed Clare Valley producer Claymore Wines is excited to have reached platinum status, celebrating twenty years of production with the release of the 2018 vintage of Joshua Tree Riesling.
Dark Side of The Moon Shiraz, another of their iconic wines, turns twenty with the 2018 to be released in the next couple of years. However, they will celebrate that birthday when they get to it. For now, the focus is on revelling in the 2018 vintage rieslings, paying particular homage to the birthday boy; Joshua Tree.
At this special time Claymore Wines are pleased to announce that Nathan Norman, who has been been working within the company as the assistant winemaker, now steps up to takes the reins as Winemaker.
Nathan is an eighth-generation wine maker who grew up on his Grandfathers farm at Angle Vale. His formative years were spent at Peter Lehman Wines where he ‘cut his teeth’ in the winery after leaving school. He then travelled to Sicily, England and Spain for vintages, eventually returning to work with Tin Shed Wines for the better part of a decade. In his new appointment at Claymore Wines, Nathan will have oversight of all Vineyard and Winemaking operations.
He has been involved in crafting some great wines in previous roles and is looking forward to taking over the winemaking reins at Claymore. Given it is Claymore’s twentieth year of production, he is particularly excited about stamping his mark on the twentieth releases as they roll out, starting with the twentieth vintage of the Joshua Tree riesling in September.
Nathan, who has a particular fondness for the grape that is riesling, is super “chuffed” to be the Winemaker who gets to “hang his hat” on this vintage.
Claymore also welcomes Steve McKenzie to the production team as Vineyard Leading Hand and Cellar Assistant, he joins them with a wealth of experience from Quelltaller Estate, another iconic winery from the Clare Valley.
Regarding his new position, Nathan says, “It’s a family thing. My dad, my brother, my sister, my grandad… Winemaking is something that is in my blood. To be here in the Clare Valley, the Riesling capital of the world; well I wouldn’t have it any other way!”
Ian Gray and Pamela Honeysett have recently returned from their epic adventure as our prize-winners to the Claymore Wines Members Club annual competition. This competition sees two lucky people jetted off to Liverpool for three days of sight-seeing, including an Anfield Stadium tour, lunch in the Liverpool FC cafe and a corporate package to see our adored Reds play a home game at Anfield, including a ride home in the Liverpool FC players team bus back to their hotel, a noted highlight for them both!
Ian and Pamela extended their trip to see some of what Europe has to offer. While they concur, that after being dazzled by Liverpool, some of what they saw was a bit underwhelming. However, one of their highlights was in Switzerland where they enjoyed a bottle of Claymore ‘Dark Side if the Moon’ that Ian had carefully brought along for such an occasion.
Here is a photo of their balcony view in Switzerland where they thought it was a perfect setting to enjoy their favourite Claymore drop.
Ian comments, “We would like to thank Claymore Wines so much for the trip experience you have made available through the promotion. Obviously, there can only be one winning couple and Pamela and I were very, very fortunate to have our name drawn.
Pamela and I are just so happy to be part of the Claymore family and look forward to a long association of enjoying the wines and events.”
We are thrilled to add Ian and Pamela to our Claymore Family and also look forward to a long association with them both.
Claymore has a heavy focus on women championing women in their chosen fields, sharing their passions and supporting one another in all activities - on and off the field (excuse the pun)! We our proud to bring Kristy into our fold, she not only shares our passion for great reds, but is a champion for women in sport, is a nurse, a mum, a partner, and importantly, a fabulous role model for women and girls across the board.
Claymore Wines would like to congratulate Ian Gray and Pamela Honeysett from Glengowrie, as the lucky winners of the “Liverpool Experience” competition. The prize includes a trip for two people to Liverpool in the UK valued at more than $6,000. Ian was selected in a random draw by Claymore Wines, and will be taking his partner Pamela Honeyset on their first visit to the UK.
The competition was open to members of the Claymore Wine Club, as an opportunity to toast the wine company’s partnership with Liverpool Football Club in the UK. The winner was determined via a random draw selection at their city headquarters in Adelaide earlier this month. The prize includes return economy airfares for two people to Manchester UK, airport transfers, three nights’ accommodation in Liverpool, a behind-the-scenes tour of Anfield and tickets to the home match between Liverpool FC at Anfield against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday 13 May.
Proprietor of Claymore Wines, Anura Nitchingham said the ‘Liverpool Experience’ competition was initiated in 2016 to commemorate the partnership with LFC and the Claymore Wines.
Anura said “We are thrilled to offer this prize to Ian and Pamela, who have never been to the UK before. Ian is a keen sportsman himself, and has a strong passion for great wine and football.”
“The Claymore Wine Club annual ‘Liverpool Experience’ competition is a way for our members to share our passion for wine, music and football. For the last three years, all active Claymore Wine Club members have been eligible for the chance to win a trip for two to Liverpool UK – the home of the Beatles, a burgeoning food and wine scene and of course the Liverpool Football Club. This will be the last year we will run the competition, but will offer a new prize in 2019.
“The wine club has grown in excess of 900 active members who were all automatically eligible for the competition. We hope to continue to grow our loyal fan base for Claymore Wines and Liverpool FC,” he said.
Winner Ian Gray said he is "over (the dark side) of the moon" to be the lucky recipient of the prize.
“I have never travelled to the UK before and really only ever expected that it would be a trip I would do in retirement,” Ian said. “To have the opportunity of being taken to the UK as a prize and with the privilege of being a guest at a Liverpool home game as the pinnacle of the trip, it's going to be a life story and memory that will remain with Pamela and I always.”
“I have always been naturally drawn in as a supporter of Liverpool as the bold colour of the uniform jersey matched as my old school colour. Since being introduced to Claymore and with the promotion of the “Liverpool Experience” being up for grabs, I have keenly noted the results of past draws with somewhat of a jealous eye.
“All the Groupies know that we all would love to win this highly valued prize, but of course, no-one actually ever expects to receive "that call" and after the surprise of my call I could only be described the feeling as being "over (the dark side) of the moon",” he said.
The Claymore Wine Club annual ‘Liverpool Experience’ competition has run consecutively for three years from 2016-2018. Each year all active Claymore Wine Club members have been eligible for the chance to win a trip for two to Liverpool UK. In 2019, a new prize will be available for Claymore Wines Club members.
