Winemaker - Marnie Roberts
Grape Variety - 65% Grenache, 25% Shiraz, 10% Mataro
Region - 100% Clare Valley
Colour - Deep ruby red.
Bouquet - This is our interpretation of the classic Southern Rhone blend, a luscious GSM that greets the drinker with savoury earthy aromas and floral redcurrant fruit followed by hints of blackberry and gentle spice.
Palate - This wine has been constructed with an eye to taking the best of the individual components and working them together into a complementary blend – consideration always to how these components come together to contribute structure and complexity to the finished wine.
The resultant blend is plush and juicy possessing elegant, mouth coating tannins. The mid palate is full of succulent, plump fruit with more earthy/mocha flavours on the finish.
Unfiltered for maximum intensity and matured in 100% older oak for 10 months, this is an immediately approachable drop. Layered, balanced and with surprising length, it just keeps giving - made to be enjoyed with friends and family.
General - The Shiraz component this year, sourced from one of our dry grown Watervale vineyards, lends a distinctive floral perfume of violets and underlying power to round out the edges of this elegant little baby. Mataro, sourced from our Penwortham vineyard and co-fermented with our Penwortham Grenache, gives the wine a juicy, fleshy impact, while our 1950’s Watervale bush vines lend spice to the flavour mix.
Serve With - It’s juiciness and drinkability would see it pair perfectly with a slow cooked pork Banh Mi….try the one on offer from the revamped Watervale Store next time you visit! (Thanks Lou!)
