Wine Maker - Emma Walker
Grape Variety - 55% Shiraz 45% Mataro
Region - 100% Clare Valley
Colour - Bright, medium dark red
Bouquet - Fragrant and appealing notes of rose petals and aged leather from the Mataro contrast and complement the more recognisable dark berry fruits and gentle spice of the Shiraz.
Palate - There's a lot to love in this deceptively mid strength red; the use of Mataro over the more familiar Shiraz lends floral and earthy complexity to a base line of delicious dark forest berries and subtle spice. The primary fruit is allowed to shine while moderate tannin structure and gentle natural acidity make for an appealing wine in youth with the potential to develop int he medium term.
General - Born from a spirit of playfulness, this deceptively attractive blend takes our Clare Valley Shiraz and funks it up with a solid whack of Mataro…an old school workhorse variety that has been an example of reinvention…from light, early picked styles in the late 1800’s through to a starring role in the mid century fortified rush to the modern era where this robust, heat loving beastie plays well with so many others - Shiraz a classic match! Think floral notes, spice, subtle earthy notes and structure lending a whole new edge to our powerfully elegant Shiraz.
Serve With - Pairs well with cured meats, smoked cheese or spicy chorizo...a nod its Spanish origins.
