Wine Maker - Emma Walker
Grape Variety - 100% Riesling
Region - 100% Estate Grown Watervale, Clare Valley
Colour - Palest gold with light green tinges.
Bouquet - This year brought us traditional citrus fruits to the max - lime juice and lemon zest with subtle notes of floral blossom.
Palate - Zesty, racy and all too appealing - this release carries its fruit weight with ease, balanced by fine acidity and attractive minerality. This is not a shy retiring Rizza though - she is there in all her glory within days of bottling making you stand up and take notice; as any true Queen demands.
General - When it comes to Riesling, we aim to let the fruit and the season tell the story. 2020 has an amazing Riesling story to tell – once again an incredibly low yielding year which our non irrigated vines withstood through careful viticultural practise and considered timing of harvest.
We closely control the timing of our Riesling harvests to capture bright natural acidity and optimal fruit balance off the vine, capturing the purity of this style and preserving it through the vinifcation process.
Made from a blend of parcels drawn from our three Riesling sites, this wine is crafted using only free run juice and cool fermentation. It once again delivers a classic Watervale Rizza - accessible and quite forward fruit profile, balanced by racy acid on the finish.
Serve With - I do love fresh shucked oysters with brand new 'baby' Riesling but understand it's not everyone's passion; so instead consider Chinese style steamed scallops with ginger, lime and soy. I don't think you will be disappointed!
